The Story

National Novel Writing Month 2007

It's no surprise to those that know me that I am an avid gamer. I always get varied reactions when people find out, everything from "Hahaha, I shoulda known!" to "But, but...you're a girl!"

Yes, I am a girl, and I am always highly offended when people infer that girls can't be gamers. But that's another story for another time.

Anyhow, one of my favourite video game series' is The Legend of Zelda and I have, at the very least, played every single game, with an exception or two. I own them all except for one, maybe two and I have completed, or am on my way to completing most of them. This is love, folks, it really is. Yet, with all things pertaining to love, I have a few beefs.

This is one of the longest running series, and in the last 20 years (holy crap! Zelda is 20 years old this year...) they have only deviated from the usual elements of the series twice, and even then it was merely an extension/continuation of the original story.

There is absolutely no deviation from one game to the next: Zelda/Hyrule are in trouble, Link finds/gets Master Sword, Link finds/gets Triforce of Courage, Link joins up with Zelda/Triforce of Wisdom, Link/Zelda fight Ganon/Triforce of Power. Things have been added, things have been taken away, but these elements remain a constant, and after 20 years and 13 titles I am so sick of it.

I love it to death and will play it regardless, but enough is enough. I've set out to change this in the realm of Fan Fiction. You can argue that what I'm doing is an extension/continuation of the story, and I agree. This is a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. However, I've switched things up a bit, and I think the only thematic element that I've kept is the whole "search for the Master Sword" thing.

I've bitched enough about this, so I leave you to draw your own conclusions. Enjoy.
